TWP 300 SERIES DECK AND FURNITURE STAIN PRODUCT

TWP 300 is especially formulated to resist mold, mildew and fungus. It is a positive dry, oil-based penetrating surface sealer. It leaves no oily film residue. It contains 60-65% solids, is ultra-violet resistant, water repellant and VOC compliant. It is available in regular formulation as well as in a VOC compliant format.  TWP 300 Series is very resistant to rub-off, if properly applied. It dries to a low sheen with one coat or a high gloss with multiple coats. It works well on both horizontal and vertical surfaces. TWP 300 is ideal for picnic tables, wood benches, playground equipment, decks, wood siding, porches handrails, log homes, docks, wood trim on boats, spas and other exterior wood areas. It may be recoated with itself if the surface color shows fading (aging). Apply very thin coats to avoid film buildup.

OLD WOOD: Remove mildew, loose dirt, and old fibers using a surface cleaner. A strong cleaner and/or bleach solution may be needed for difficult jobs, such as removing all gray or bleaching out all color. Ask for information about Z-90 Wood Magic™ for lightening wood. After solution has set on the surface for the proper time, power wash to remove. Rinse thoroughly. Sand rough or checked areas. Replace wood if severely checked, rotted or splintered. Old finishes must be stripped because they will interfere with TWP 300’s penetration. To test surface, sprinkle a small amount of water on the surface. If it beads up, like on a waxed car, the surface must be stripped before proceeding. Wood is now ready for the new finish.

NEW WOOD: Remove all dryer and grading marks. Wet surface, then let dry, several times, to lift surface fibers to allow penetration on new wood.

APPLICATION: Dip, brush, roll or spray. Do not apply below 50ºF. Material may be thinned at the rate of up to 2 gal. mineral spirits to 5 gal. TWP 300. Do not use recycled thinners!  This improves penetration and lightens color. **CAUTION** Using thinners raises the VOC. VOC compliant thinners are available, if needed in your area. To avoid glossy areas, use roller, applicator pad or rag after TWP 300 is on the surface 15-30 min. Rub off extra material on knot swirls and grain sweeps. Use TWP 300 full strength for one-coat applications. A single coat gives a natural stain look. One coat is enough on new and power washed surfaces. For a varnish look, use a thinned coating first then after that is completely dry, use a second thinned coat. Wait 72 hrs. or until after finish is dry to the touch, before applying second coat. Gloss finishes, properly applied, give the best protection for resistance to scuffing and heavy traffic areas.  If the surface looks too glossy, lightly sand the surface with a green Scotchbrite™ pad. This will reduce the shine. It will also remove a little of the coating.

SPREAD RATE:

1. New planed wood: 300-400 sq. ft./gal. This gives a glossy varnished look. A second coat is necessary for uniformity.  As an alternative, a thinned coating of TWP 300 Clear as a first coat will help maintain an even finish.

2. New wood or to add color to cleaned older surfaces: 200-500 sq. ft./gal. depending on age and dryness of wood.

3. Rough sawn new wood: 200-300 sq. ft./gal. one coat.

4. Rough sawn old wood: 150-200 sq. ft./gal. one coat. For longer protection on rough sawn surfaces use two thinned coats.

DRY TIME: 48-96 hours depending on drying conditions.

THINNING AND CLEAN UP: Mineral spirits.  Once again, do not use recycled thinners to thin 300 series.
